Who is Cal Hampton?
Cal Hampton is one of the eight characters Rockstar Games has officially introduced for Grand Theft Auto VI. He belongs to Jason Duval's world in the Leonida Keys: he is a friend of Jason and an associate of Brian Heder, the old-school drug runner Jason works for.
Where many GTA characters are loud and larger than life, Cal comes across as a different type: someone who would much rather stay at home than be out on the streets.
What Rockstar has revealed
A conspiracy theorist
According to Rockstar, Cal is more than a little bit of a conspiracy theorist. He spends a lot of his time following what happens online, and he clearly does not take official stories at face value.
A homebody
Cal prefers to stay indoors when he can. Rather than heading out, he keeps track of the world from his own space.
Listening in
One detail stands out: Cal likes to listen to Coast Guard communications. In a region where drugs are moved by boat, knowing what the Coast Guard is up to could be very useful, whether or not that is his reason for doing it.
His connections
- Jason Duval: Cal is a friend of Jason, one of the two protagonists.
- Brian Heder: Cal is an associate of Brian, who runs drugs in the Keys and is Jason's landlord.
That places Cal firmly in the Keys part of the story, alongside Jason and Brian.
What role could Cal play?
Rockstar has not explained Cal's role in the story in detail, so anything beyond the official description is speculation. What can be said is that GTA games often include friends of the protagonist who provide information, humour or a different perspective. A character who monitors radio traffic and online chatter fits naturally into that kind of role.
We will update this guide once Cal's place in the story is clearer, either through new reveals or after the game's release.
A satirical character
The GTA series has always made fun of modern culture, and conspiracy thinking has become a big part of online life. A character like Cal gives Rockstar room to comment on that with its usual mix of humour and satire.
Where did Cal appear?
Cal was introduced as part of the expanded character profiles on the official GTA 6 website around the release of the second trailer in May 2025.
