What a slow motion cheat does
A slow motion cheat slows down the whole game world. Cars, people, explosions and bullets all move at a fraction of their normal speed, which gives you more time to react and turns ordinary moments into dramatic, film-like scenes. It is part cinematic tool, part gameplay aid, and it has been a favourite in the Grand Theft Auto series for exactly that reason.
Where most cheats change your character, slow motion changes time itself. That makes it a very different kind of experience from cheats like health refills or extra weapons.
How it worked in GTA V
In Grand Theft Auto V, PC players typed SLOWMO into the cheat input box to slow the game down. What made it interesting was that it could be entered up to three times. Each entry slowed the game a little further, so players could choose how extreme the effect should be.
On consoles the cheat was entered with a button combination, and on every platform the effect could also be triggered by dialling a number on the in-game phone. GTA V also had a separate cheat that slowed things down only while aiming, but this page focuses on the general slow motion effect.
What we know about cheats in GTA 6
Right now there is no official information about cheat codes in GTA 6. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game will be released on Thursday 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it has not said whether a slow motion cheat will be part of it.
That is why the table at the top of this page shows "not yet known". We never publish guessed codes. As soon as Rockstar Games releases the codes, we will add the right one for each platform.
Why slow motion is worth trying
Cinematic moments
A car crash, a jump off a ramp or a big explosion looks spectacular when it plays out slowly. Players who record videos or take screenshots often use slow motion to catch the perfect frame.
More time to react
Slowing the game down gives you extra time to aim, steer or dodge. That can make a difficult section much easier to get through, especially when you are still learning it.
Seeing the details
GTA games are packed with small animations and physics effects that are easy to miss at full speed. Slow motion lets you actually see how a vehicle deforms or how characters react.
Getting the most out of it
- Choose the right level. If the cheat has several steps, as it did in GTA V, a mild slowdown is often enough for driving, while the slowest setting works best for screenshots.
- Combine it with other cheats. Slow motion together with super jump or low gravity can create some truly strange and memorable scenes.
- Remember to switch it off. Playing at slow speed for a long time can feel tiring. Return to normal speed once the moment has passed.
Things to keep in mind
Achievements and trophies
In GTA V any cheat disabled achievements and trophies for the rest of the session. Restarting or loading a save brought them back. Save before you start if achievements are important to you.
Story mode only
GTA V cheats could not be used in GTA Online. Slowing down time is impossible to do fairly in a shared world, so this kind of cheat has always been a single-player feature. If GTA 6 has an online mode, we expect the same, although it has not been confirmed.
