What a change weather cheat does
A change weather cheat lets you decide what the sky looks like. Instead of waiting for the weather to change on its own, you enter the code and the game switches to a different type of weather. Sunshine can turn into rain, clouds can roll in or a storm can clear up in an instant.
It is not a cheat that makes you stronger or helps you finish missions faster. What it does is change the mood of the world, and in a game that looks as good as a modern GTA, that can make a big difference.
How it worked in GTA V
In Grand Theft Auto V, PC players typed MAKEITRAIN into the cheat input box to change the weather. The cheat did not let you pick one specific type directly. Instead, every time you entered it, the game moved on to the next weather type in a fixed cycle of nine. Players who wanted a particular kind of weather simply kept entering the code until it appeared.
On consoles the cheat was entered with a button combination, and on all platforms it could also be triggered through a number on the in-game phone.
What we know about cheats in GTA 6
At the time of writing there is no official information about cheat codes in GTA 6. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game launches on Thursday 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it has not said whether players will be able to change the weather with a cheat.
The table at the top of this page shows "not yet known" until the codes are released. We do not guess codes. Once Rockstar Games releases them, we will add the right code for every platform.
Why you would want to change the weather
Photos and videos
Weather has a huge effect on how a scene looks. A sunny afternoon, a rainy night and a foggy morning all give the same street a completely different feel. Players who take screenshots or record videos use weather cheats to get exactly the atmosphere they want.
Driving conditions
In GTA games the weather can affect how vehicles handle. Wet roads behave differently from dry ones, which changes how chases and races feel. Switching the weather is an easy way to make driving more relaxed or more challenging.
Simply enjoying the world
Sometimes you just want to see the city in the rain or watch a storm roll in. A weather cheat lets you do that without waiting.
Tips for using a weather cheat
- Cycle patiently. If the cheat works through weather types one by one, as it did in GTA V, it may take a few entries to reach the one you want.
- Combine it with the time of day. The same weather can look very different in the morning, afternoon or at night. Try a few combinations.
- Think about missions. Changing the weather in the middle of a mission is harmless in most cases, but bad weather can make driving sections harder.
Things to keep in mind
Achievements and trophies
In GTA V any cheat, even one as harmless as changing the weather, disabled achievements and trophies for the rest of the session. Restarting or reloading your save turned them back on. Save first if achievements matter to you.
Story mode only
GTA V cheats could not be used in GTA Online, where all players share the same world and weather. If GTA 6 includes an online mode, we expect cheats to stay in single-player again, although that has not been confirmed.
