What a recharge special ability cheat does
A recharge special ability cheat refills the meter that powers a character's special ability. Instead of waiting for it to fill up through normal play, you enter the code and the ability is ready to use straight away.
That only makes sense in a game where characters have special abilities in the first place. Grand Theft Auto V introduced exactly that, and this cheat was built around it.
How special abilities worked in GTA V
Each of the three playable characters in GTA V had a special ability with its own meter. Michael could slow down time during gunfights, Franklin could slow down time while driving, and Trevor could enter a rage mode that made him far more dangerous in a fight. Using an ability drained the meter, and it slowly refilled through play.
In GTA V, PC players could type POWERUP into the cheat input box to refill the meter instantly. Console players used a button combination, and on every platform the cheat could also be triggered with a number on the in-game phone.
What we know about GTA 6
There is currently no official information about cheat codes in GTA 6. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game will be released on Thursday 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has also not shared whether the characters in GTA 6 have special abilities like those in GTA V.
That means it is uncertain whether a cheat like this would even fit GTA 6. The table at the top of this page shows "not yet known" for every platform, and we will update it as soon as Rockstar Games releases the codes.
Why a recharge cheat is useful
Use your ability more often
Special abilities are powerful but limited by their meter. A recharge cheat removes that limit, so you can rely on your ability whenever you want.
Getting through difficult moments
Abilities that slow down time or make a character tougher can turn a losing fight into a win. Having the meter full at the right moment can make a big difference.
Experimenting
Using an ability over and over helps you understand exactly how it works and when it is most effective.
How it combined with other cheats in GTA V
Players often paired the recharge cheat with other combat cheats. A full ability meter together with a weapons cheat and a health and armor refill made each character's strengths stand out. Using it repeatedly during a long fight let players stay in slow motion or rage mode much longer than the game normally allowed.
Things to keep in mind
Achievements and trophies
In GTA V any cheat disabled achievements and trophies for the rest of the play session. They came back after restarting the game or loading a save. Save first if achievements matter to you.
Story mode only
GTA V cheats could not be used in GTA Online. If GTA 6 has an online mode, we expect cheats to stay in single-player again, but this has not been confirmed.
It depends on the game's design
A recharge cheat only exists if the game has abilities to recharge. Until Rockstar Games shares more about GTA 6's gameplay, this cheat remains a question mark.
