What a fast swim cheat does
A fast swim cheat lets your character move through water much faster than normal. Crossing a river, reaching a boat or swimming along the coast takes far less time. For a game set in a world with lots of water, that can make a real difference.
Swimming is usually one of the slowest ways to get around in a GTA game. This cheat turns it into a practical option instead of something you only do when you have no other choice.
How it worked in GTA V
In Grand Theft Auto V, PC players typed GOTGILLS into the cheat input box to swim faster. On consoles the cheat was entered with a button combination, and on every platform it could also be activated by calling a number on the in-game phone.
It was part of the same family as the fast run cheat. Neither made you stronger, but both made moving around without a vehicle much quicker.
What we know about cheats in GTA 6
At the time of writing there is no official information about cheat codes in GTA 6. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game will be released on Thursday 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Whether it will include a fast swim cheat has not been announced.
The table at the top of this page shows "not yet known" until the codes are released. We do not guess codes. As soon as Rockstar Games makes them available, we will add the right one for each platform.
Why faster swimming can be useful
Water is everywhere
Open-world maps often include coastlines, rivers, lakes and harbours. Being able to cross water quickly saves you from long detours around bridges and roads.
Getting out of trouble
Jumping into the water is a classic way to escape a chase in a GTA game. Swimming away faster makes that escape more effective.
Exploring the coast
Coastlines are full of beaches, piers and hidden corners. A speed boost makes exploring them from the water a lot less tedious.
Tips for using it
- Pair it with fast run. Moving quickly both on land and in water lets you travel along the coast without needing a vehicle.
- Keep an eye on your surroundings. Boats and jet skis move fast too, and a collision in the water can still hurt.
- Use it for exploring. If GTA 6 has interesting places along its coast, a fast swim cheat is a relaxed way to discover them.
Things to keep in mind
Achievements and trophies
In GTA V any cheat turned off achievements and trophies for the current session. They returned after a restart or after loading your save. Save before experimenting if achievements matter to you.
Story mode only
GTA V cheats did not work in GTA Online. If GTA 6 has an online mode, we expect the same separation between story and online play, but this has not been confirmed.
Boats are still faster
For long trips over water, a boat will usually beat even the fastest swimmer. The cheat is most useful for short crossings and for moments when there is no boat nearby.
