What an explosive melee cheat does
An explosive melee cheat makes your punches and kicks explode. Every hit you land with your fists or feet causes a blast, sending people and even vehicles flying. It takes the most basic way of fighting in a GTA game and turns it into something completely over the top.
It is not a serious combat tool. It is a cheat for laughing at the game's physics, and for many players that is exactly why it is one of their favourites.
How it worked in GTA V
In Grand Theft Auto V, PC players typed HOTHANDS into the cheat input box. From then on, melee attacks such as punches and kicks were explosive. On consoles the cheat was entered with a button combination, and on every platform it could also be activated by calling a number on the in-game phone.
For many players it was a go-to cheat for fun, simply because punching a car and watching it react is so far from normal play.
What we know about cheats in GTA 6
At the moment there is no official information about cheat codes in GTA 6. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game launches on Thursday 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it has not shared whether it includes cheats like explosive melee.
The table at the top of this page therefore shows "not yet known". We do not guess codes. As soon as Rockstar Games releases them, we will add the right one for every platform.
Why explosive melee is so entertaining
Absurd results
A normal punch should not send a car across the street. Seeing it happen anyway is the whole joke, and it works every time.
No weapons needed
You do not need to find or buy a weapon. Your own fists become the most powerful tool you have.
Great for videos
Explosive punches make for short, funny clips. Combined with slow motion, every hit becomes a small action scene.
A few practical tips
- Mind the blast. Explosions happen right next to you, so your own character can be caught in them. A protection cheat helps if you want to keep going.
- Expect police attention. Explosive fights in the street draw a response quickly. Have a plan to escape or lower your wanted level.
- Try different targets. People, vehicles and objects all react in their own way, and part of the fun is discovering how.
Things to keep in mind
Achievements and trophies
In GTA V any cheat disabled achievements and trophies for the current session. They returned after a restart or after loading your save. Save first if achievements are important to you.
Story mode only
GTA V cheats could not be used in GTA Online. Explosive punches in a shared world would be unfair to other players. If GTA 6 has an online mode, we expect cheats to be limited to single-player again, although this has not been confirmed.
Missions may not survive it
Many missions involve characters and vehicles that need to stay intact. An accidental explosive punch can end a mission early, so free roam is the best place for this cheat.
