Vice City in GTA 6
Vice City is the main city of Leonida, the state in which Grand Theft Auto VI is set. It is the series' modern-day version of Miami, and the place most fans picture when they think of GTA 6.
The official GTA 6 website describes the setting as Vice City, USA, and the game as a journey to the darkest side of the sunniest place in America.
What Vice City looks like
From the trailers and the August 2026 extended look, Vice City shows many of the things associated with Miami:
- Beaches along the coast.
- Art deco hotels, a style closely linked to Miami Beach.
- Nightlife districts full of clubs and bright lights.
- Glass towers in the modern city centre.
- Canals and ports, with water never far away.
- Residential neighbourhoods that show everyday life.
A city with history
Vice City first appeared in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002. That game was set in the 1980s and became one of the most loved entries in the series, famous for its neon style, its fashion and its soundtrack of 1980s hits.
GTA 6 brings Vice City into the present day. Some of the spirit of the original remains, from the sunshine to the nightlife, but the city now reflects modern life, including social media, viral videos and a very different kind of fame.
Who you will meet
Several of the officially introduced characters are part of Vice City life:
- Boobie Ike, a local who built a business empire in real estate, nightlife and music.
- Dre'Quan Priest, an aspiring producer at Boobie's label Only Raw Records.
- Real Dimez, the duo Bae-Luxe and Roxy, signed to Only Raw Records.
Their stories suggest that the city's music and nightlife scene will play a real part in the game.
Vice City and Leonida
Unlike in 2002, Vice City is no longer the whole map. It is the urban heart of Leonida, surrounded by very different regions: the island chain of the Leonida Keys, the wetlands of Grassrivers, the faded coastal town of Port Gellhorn, the industrial heartland of Ambrosia and the wilderness of Mount Kalaga National Park. Satire in the sunshine
GTA has always used its cities to poke fun at modern culture. Vice City offers plenty of targets: luxury lifestyles, influencers, tourism, real estate and nightlife. The first trailer already showed this side, with clips styled like viral social media videos.
