What is Grassrivers?
Grassrivers is the wetland region of Leonida, the state in which Grand Theft Auto VI is set. It is inspired by the Florida Everglades, the vast subtropical wetland in the south of Florida.
It is one of the six regions Rockstar Games has officially introduced, and it offers a very different side of Leonida from the beaches and skyscrapers of Vice City.
What to expect
Swamps and mangroves
Grassrivers is a landscape of swamps and mangrove forests, where land and water blend into each other.
Waterways
Channels and waterways run through the region. In a place like this, getting around often means travelling over water rather than on roads.
Airboats
Airboats, the flat-bottomed boats pushed by a large fan, are closely associated with the Everglades. They appear in descriptions of Grassrivers too, and they are the natural way to move through shallow wetlands.
Wildlife
The region is home to wildlife, including alligators. That fits the Everglades inspiration and suggests that nature plays a bigger role here than in other parts of Leonida.
A wilder Leonida
Earlier GTA games were mostly about cities, with countryside around the edges. Grassrivers shows that GTA 6 wants to offer a broader picture of its state, including landscapes that feel remote and untamed. The first trailer already gave glimpses of Leonida's wilder side, contrasting it with the glamour of Vice City.
Animals in GTA 6
Wildlife has become more important in Rockstar's recent games. The August 2026 extended look showed that GTA 6's world is more interactive than ever, and descriptions of Grassrivers mention alligators specifically. How players will interact with wildlife in the wetlands has not been fully detailed.
If you explore the region after release, a little caution is probably wise: alligators in a GTA game are unlikely to be friendly.
