What is Leonida?
Leonida is the fictional US state in which Grand Theft Auto VI takes place. It is Rockstar Games' take on Florida: sunny, varied and full of contrasts, from glamorous beaches to swamps and run-down coastal towns.
Earlier GTA games were often built around a single city. GTA V expanded that to a city plus its surrounding countryside. GTA 6 goes further by presenting an entire state, with Vice City as its main urban centre.
The regions of Leonida
Rockstar has officially introduced six regions. Each has its own guide on this site.
Vice City
Leonida's main city and the series' modern-day version of Miami: beaches, nightlife, art deco, glass towers and canals.
Leonida Keys
A tropical island chain in the south, inspired by the Florida Keys, connected by long bridges.
Grassrivers
A wetland region inspired by the Everglades, with swamps, mangroves, waterways and wildlife such as alligators.
Port Gellhorn
A faded coastal destination full of cheap motels, abandoned attractions and working-class neighbourhoods.
Ambrosia
An industrial and agricultural heartland dominated by a sugar refinery, with fields, freight infrastructure and local biker culture.
Mount Kalaga National Park
A forested wilderness in the north of the state, with rivers, hills and trails.
Why Florida?
Florida has a reputation in popular culture for being sunny, strange and unpredictable, with stories from the state regularly going viral online. That reputation fits the GTA series' satirical style perfectly. The first trailer leaned into it heavily, using social media-style clips to show the chaos of everyday life in Leonida.
Rockstar's own tagline for the game describes Leonida as the darkest side of the sunniest place in America.
Vice City's history
Vice City is not new to the series. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, released in 2002, was set in a 1980s version of the city. GTA 6 brings it back in the present day, as part of a much larger world.
How big is Leonida?
Rockstar has not published an official size for the map. Various claims circulate online, but until Rockstar confirms figures or players can explore it themselves, we prefer not to repeat estimates. What is clear from the trailers and the extended look is that Leonida is varied, with city, coast, islands, wetlands, industry and wilderness.
Life in Leonida
The August 2026 extended look showed not only action but also everyday places: homes, shops, nightlife spots and the airport. That suggests a world designed to feel lived-in, with plenty to see beyond missions and chases.
Our interactive map
Our interactive map currently uses a placeholder image, because we do not use maps from Rockstar or other sites. Once there is a map we can use, we will add locations from Leonida to it.
