GTA 6 has a release date, and it has moved twice to get there. Here is when the game comes out, how that date was set and how to get ready for launch day.

When does GTA 6 come out?
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on Thursday 19 November 2026. Rockstar Games confirmed this date itself, and it applies to both platforms the game has been announced for: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Both versions are scheduled to release on the same day.
That date is the result of a long road. GTA 6 was first expected in 2025, then moved to May 2026, and finally to November 2026. Rockstar has explained each delay as a matter of giving the team enough time to finish the game to the standard players expect.
How the release date was set
The 2025 window
When Rockstar released the first trailer in December 2023, it ended with a release window of 2025. There was no exact date at that point, only the year.
The first delay: 26 May 2026
In May 2025 Rockstar announced that the game would not make it in 2025. The new target became 26 May 2026. Shortly afterwards the second trailer was released.
The second delay: 19 November 2026
In November 2025 Rockstar moved the date once more, to 19 November 2026. In its statement the studio apologised for the extra wait and said the additional months would let it finish the game with the level of polish players have come to expect.
Is the date final?
Nobody outside Rockstar can promise that a date will not change. What we can say is that, since the November 2025 announcement, a lot has happened that points towards a game nearing launch. Rockstar released a long gameplay presentation in August 2026, and pre-orders opened in June 2026. Those are steps publishers usually take when a release is close.

What time will GTA 6 unlock?
Rockstar has not published an exact unlock time for every region yet. Many big releases unlock at midnight local time, while others unlock at the same moment worldwide. Until Rockstar confirms how GTA 6 will handle this, it is best not to rely on any specific time you see online.
Can you pre-order GTA 6?
Yes. Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026. The game is available in a Standard Edition and an Ultimate Edition, and pre-orders include a bonus called the Vintage Vice City Pack. Our separate guides on pre-orders and editions explain the details.
How to get ready for launch day
- Check your console storage. Large open-world games take up a lot of space. Rockstar has not published the final file size yet, so leaving plenty of room free is a sensible precaution.
- Keep your console updated. Installing system updates ahead of time saves you from waiting on launch day.
- Decide on an edition early. If you want the Ultimate Edition or the pre-order bonus, sort it out before the release date.
- Plan some time. GTA games are built for long sessions. Clearing your schedule for the first evening is never a bad idea.
What about PC?
GTA 6 has been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. A PC version has not been announced at the time of writing. That follows the pattern of earlier Rockstar games, which often arrived on PC later than on consoles, but there is no official word on whether or when that will happen for GTA 6.
