Which editions of GTA 6 are there?

Grand Theft Auto VI is available in two editions: the Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition. Both include the full game and both can be pre-ordered for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ahead of the release on Thursday 19 November 2026.

This guide explains what each edition offers, how they differ and what to think about before choosing.

Standard Edition

The Standard Edition is the base game: the complete story of Jason and Lucia and the open world of Leonida. In the United States it costs $79.99. Prices in other countries depend on local currency, taxes and the store you buy from.

If you simply want to play GTA 6, the Standard Edition gives you everything you need. The extras in the Ultimate Edition are additional items, not extra story chapters or areas of the map.

Ultimate Edition

The Ultimate Edition contains the base game plus an exclusive collection of extra in-game content, such as items for your characters. Rockstar presents it as the edition for players who want more from day one.

The full list of contents is shown on the official GTA 6 website and in console stores. Because those details can be updated, it is worth checking the official store page for the latest list before you buy.

Standard versus Ultimate

  • The game itself: identical in both editions.
  • Extra items: only in the Ultimate Edition.
  • Pre-order bonus: the Vintage Vice City Pack is included with pre-orders of both editions.
  • Price: the Ultimate Edition costs more than the Standard Edition.

Which edition should you choose?

Choose Standard if...

You want the full game at the lowest price, you do not care much about cosmetic or bonus items, or you prefer to see how much you enjoy the game before spending more.

Choose Ultimate if...

You know you will spend a lot of time in GTA 6, you like collecting in-game items, or you simply want everything available from the start.

Keep in mind that bonus items are nice to have but rarely essential. In most open-world games, players earn plenty of vehicles, weapons and clothing through normal play.

What about the Vice City Collection?

Rockstar has also announced the Vice City Collection, a limited-edition collector's box. It is a physical collector's item rather than a game edition. Our separate guide explains what is known about it.

Can you upgrade later?

Many modern games let you upgrade from a standard to a premium edition after purchase, usually by buying an upgrade pack in the console store. Whether and how this will work for GTA 6 has not been confirmed in detail. Check the official store pages if you want to start with Standard and upgrade later.
