How many people have pre-ordered GTA 6?
Rockstar and Take-Two have not published official pre-order numbers. The best-known estimate comes from the market research firm Sensor Tower, reported by GamesIndustry.biz in October 2026. It estimates that by 13 October 2026, about 6.08 million digital copies of GTA 6 had been pre-ordered in the United States, worth about $594 million.
148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2
To put that in context, Sensor Tower compared GTA 6 with some of the biggest games of recent years at a similar point before their launch: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Diablo 4, Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Modern Warfare 2 was the strongest of those, with more than double Diablo 4's pre-orders 45 days before launch. GTA 6 is 148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2, according to the estimate.
PlayStation or Xbox?
About 74% of the estimated pre-orders are on PlayStation and 26% on Xbox. Sensor Tower also says a large share of buyers chose the more expensive Ultimate Edition. See GTA 6 editions for what is in each version.
What these numbers do not include
These are estimates, not sales figures from Rockstar. They are limited in a few ways:
- Digital only. Boxed copies from shops are not counted.
- United States only. Pre-orders in the rest of the world are not included.
- Modelled. Sensor Tower bases its figures on its own data and calculations. Take-Two has not confirmed them.
The real worldwide number is therefore higher, but nobody outside Rockstar and Take-Two knows by how much.
