The second GTA 6 trailer
The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI was released on 6 May 2025. It came shortly after Rockstar announced that the game would move from 2025 to 2026, and it gave fans something to make up for the wait: a much deeper look at the story and its two leads.
Rockstar said the footage in the trailer was captured on PlayStation 5.
Jason and Lucia take centre stage
Where the first trailer focused mostly on Lucia and the world, the second trailer was built around both protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. It showed more of their relationship and set up the core of the story: two people who feel the odds are stacked against them, trying to get ahead in a world that keeps pushing back.
The official GTA 6 website sums up the premise in a similar way. When an easy score goes wrong, Jason and Lucia end up on what Rockstar calls the darkest side of the sunniest place in America.
New characters and places
Alongside the trailer, Rockstar expanded the official website with profiles of characters and regions. The trailer itself gave first glimpses of several of them, including figures from Vice City's music and nightlife scene and from the criminal world of the Leonida Keys.
The website introduced six main characters besides Jason and Lucia: Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. It also described regions across Leonida, from Vice City to the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. We have a separate guide for each of them.
A record launch
Rockstar reported that the second trailer reached 475 million views across platforms within 24 hours. Whatever the exact way of counting, it showed just how much attention GTA 6 attracts.
What the trailer told us about the game
- Two protagonists. The story is clearly built around both Jason and Lucia.
- A varied map. The footage moved between city, coast, wetlands and countryside.
- A crime story with personal stakes. The trailer focused as much on the relationship between the leads as on the crimes.
- Detailed visuals on PS5. Rockstar's statement about PS5 footage gave players an idea of what to expect on current consoles.
